Intel and Google have unveiled new infotainment systems integrating the Internet into cars more seamlessly than ever before at the Consumer Electronic Show.
Both companies plan to release computer screens situated above the gearshift and project high-definition videos, 3-D maps, and Web pages, about to reach the market this year. One version available with Audi cars enables drivers to search the Internet for information while they drive.
The advent of in-vehicle internet access has caused concern among safety advocates, even though the system includes a warning: "Please only use the online services when traffic conditions allow you to do so safely".
