A new location-based service deployed by Tata Teleservices will be the first to use Qualcomm's A-GPS technology in the Indian market.
The service leverages Qualcomm's QpointTM solution and gpsOne® chipset technology, with hosting services from wireless communications provider TeleCommunication Systems (TCS). Additionally, Tata's previously launched cell-ID-based LBS services in India will profit from A-GPS technology, in terms of both performance and reliability. It will leverage triangulation with cellular base stations and satellite-based GPS for precise position location in both rural and urban environments, including inside buildings and structures.
To create both consumer and enterprise LBS application, Tata plans to work with the local developer community. On the consumer navigation side, Tata will focus on friend finder ands social networking applications. Enterprise applications will include asset and fleet tracking applications.
