Researchers at Australia's University of New South Wales are working on a solution for GPS dropouts.
As GPS technology tend to be ineffective in tunnels and between buildings, Australia's UNSW tries to solve that dysfunction with combining a satellite-reliant GPS with a non-satellite-based technology called Inertial Navigation System (INS). GPS/INS systems has formerly been built by major defense and technology companies, but still at high costs. Now Dr. Yong Li and colleagues in UNSW Engineering's Satellite Navigation & Positioning Lab (SNAPlab) aim to create a system for everyday use.
