Networks In Motion acquires TrafficGauge

09 Mar 2009

Networks In Motion (NIM) has announced the acquisition of real-time traffic information provider, TrafficGauge.

Acquiring the company will strengthen NIM's in devoloping the next generation of the company's Traffic Sharing System, built on the foundation of traffic feeds that were introduced in the fourth version of the NAVBuilder platform.

According to Doug Antone, president & CEO of Networks In Motion, the acquisition will enable NIM to leverage the company's data-aggregation server technology to further enhance the usability of NIM's navigation applications.

"This quantum leap in traffic flow accuracy, along with superior information about conditions used when calculating detours, will better meet customer expectations on traffic avoidance," he added and pointed out, that acquiring NIM will enhance its existing services and does not mark a departure from the company's focus on location-based services for mobile phones.

NIM has no plans to enter the merchant traffic data business; the acquisition did not include TrafficGauge's hardware devices business, customer base, service contracts or Web properties.
