Garmin launches ecoRoute™ as a free software add-on

ecoRoute is Garmin's new free downloadable software update that helps drivers to save money and fuel.

Adding new features to Garmin PNDs, the update provides additional capabilities including detailed fuel and mileage expense reports, CO2 emissions, economical routing with cost of journeys and tips on how to improve driving to become more environmental friendly. ecoRoute displays the fuel cost of a journey before it begins and in addition to ‘faster time' and ‘shorter distance' for route preference, ecoRoute lets nüvi users choose ‘less fuel' to provide the most economical route.

ecoRoute's fuel report tracks fuel usage over time, and mileage report monitors mileage and fuel usage on a per-trip basis and can be downloaded to a spreadsheet for detailed mileage and expense reporting. Additionally, drivers have the ability to customise their nüvi by updating the ‘vehicle profile' with the cars' fuel economy and the current price of fuel to help nüvi better calculate their savings.

Currently being optimised for Europe, ecoRoute will be available for download in February.
