TomTom: New South African distributor & office in Turkey

31 Jul 2008

Automotive navigation provider TomTom partners with multimedia distributor Rectron to further establish the TomTom brand and develop distribution and market share in South Africa.

Core group, TomTom's exclusive South African distributor, dropped the device manufacturer in May, claiming the Dutch company had failed to honour its contractual obligations.

According to TomTom, the company plans to bring the latest models of its car navigation product offering - the new TomTom ONE and TomTom XL range to South Africa. Being redesigned to provide maximum portability and flexibility for in-car use, the new products include an ultra-compact folding mount - known as the EasyPortTM mount, and a comprehensive map of the Southern Africa region, covering South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia, with maximum detail stored on the internal memory, provided by TeleAtlas/MapIT.

Additionally, TomTom has opened an office in Istanbul to enter the Turkish market with the TomTom ONE Turkey, TomTom XL Turkey, TomTom XL Europe and TomTom GO 720 Europe. The products will be sold through various distributors and retailers.
