Exel has charged Alanco Technologies' StarTrak Systems subsidiary with an order valued at more than $750,000 for ReeferTrak® system hardware and five years of data subscription services.

Exel's existing fleet of 500 refrigerated intermodal trailes is equipped by a two-way command and control monitoring saystem. ReeferTrak's geofencing capability automatically records the time and place that responsibility for the trailer changes hands during the shipment, enabling Exel to remotely monitor the individual performance of each rail carrier, determine fuel usage and manage shipment quality.

"Exel has unique refrigerated operations, and frequently needs to control and pre-trip systems remotely", said Joseph Garrity, general manager, Refrigerated Intermodal.

According to StarTrak's EVP Tom Robinson, the system is oriented towards providing the customer with assurances that intermodal-based freight is delivered under the proper conditions and that the customer's operating costs are controlled through the process.
