A contract covering remote monitoring and upgrade services for long-term maintenance of in-car telematics systems has been signed between PSA Peugeot Citroën and Sierra Wireless.
PSA Peugeot Citroën will use Sierra Wireless device management services for the remote monitoring and software upgrade of future generations of cars equipped with Sierra Wireless-based telematics technology.
Collaborating with Wavecom (recently acquired by Sierra Wireless) on telematics solutions for more than ten years, PSA Peugeot Citroën has currently more than 600000 cars on the road equipped with telematics technology in one form or another.
According to Emmanuel Walckenaer, Sierra Wireless senior vice president & general manager for Solutions & Services, cars typically have product life spans of ten - fifteen years, and with wireless connectivity becoming a standard feature, long-term maintenance and monitoring becomes necessary.
