Qualcomm to release eCall service

27 Nov 2009

Wireless communications and research company Qualcomm plans to release a standard in-vehicle emergency call service throughout Europe in 2010. The "eCall" service will automatically alert emergency assistance in case of an accident.

To deliver the product uniformly across commercial wireless networks, the company will be supported by Hughes Telematics. Together, both companies successfully demonstrated an eCall at the 12th Safety Forum Plenary meeting in October in Brussels, Belgium.
