Fastrax and GE Equipment Services Europe have agreed on being partners in developing a custom design concept for tracking devices. The project's first phase is valued at US$5 million.
As deliveries have already begun, the co-operators plan to ship all units within a year, expecting a growing demand for the following.
Having previously used off-the-shelf solutions, GE Equipment services decided to partner with Fastrax in 2007 to develop a costum-made tracking solution that will meet the customers' specific needs. The company's requirements include the need for a device with more than five years of technical life, quick and easy to install, and that works without cabled sensors. The solution has to support multiple asset management applications and provide connectivity to third party systems - including Electronic Braking System (EBS), reefer engines and On Board Diagnostics (OBS).
The tracking device DG100, being the first result of the cooperation, monitors trailers by using a wireless sensor network and offers considerably longer technical life through the use of a custom-made battery and extreme environmental testing. Providing better application flexibility, it is also more cost effective than off-the-shelf solutions.
Based on Fastrax Track&Trace Platform and the uTrace03 module with GPS and GPRS capabilities, DG100 is a new tracking concept. It includes additional HW expansion for local 2.4GHz wireless network, CAN bus, 3D accelerometer and support for several different power sources. All software in the tracking devices is over-the-air upgradeable via GPRS connection.
