Daimler’s Smart Car to be sold in China next year

BEIJING. Executive vice president, Klaus Maier, announced that Daimler will bring the smart to China in mid-2009 to participate in the increasingly growing micro and small car market.

Maier told a small group of journalists on 19th of April, Daimler will import the smart fortwo from Germany without giving any price details yet.
The small car segment in China showed a rapid growth of 20.4 percent in the first two months of 2008 compared to 4 percent in 2007.
Among micro cars, the best selling model was the QQ, produced by Chery Automobile Co, but due to the higher price the smart won't be competing against it. Chairman of Daimler Northeast Asia said, that the smart appeals to people looking to make a statement of lifestyle.
