"Spy in the sky" paves way for road pricing

19 Aug 2008

According to a Telegraph report the UK is pushing ahead with plans for a national road-pricing scheme including testing "spy in the sky" technology.

The pay-per-mile trials will begin in January 2010, equipping one hundred cars in each of the selected 8 areas - Leeds, North Yorkshire, Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire, south west London, Suffolk and Essex - with GPS devices to track their movements. Four companies are expected to test the in-car technologies as well as the administration necessary to run a system including sending out bills.
