Galileo launched the second experimental satellite GIOVE-B on April 26, 2008. The first experimental satellite of the In-Orbit-Validation Element (GIOVE) started in December 2005.
Critical new technologies as the on-board atomic clocks, signal generator and user receivers is about to be tested and validated by GIOVE.
GIOVE-A successfully transmitted navigation data needed by user receivers in May 2007. If the mission of GIOVE-B is successful the Galileo satellites will be launched in the first quarter of 2010 validating he functioning of space and related ground information.
After many differences the European parliament has given its support to the Galileo's development and paved the way for European's satellite radio navigation system operating finally by 2013 - two years behind schedule.
Due to the European programs Galileo and the European Geostationary Satellite Navigation Service (EGNOS) belong to no particular Member State or company Galileo will be the first common infrastructure within the EU.
